An essential element in any linear screw shaft system is a shaft coupling. Rigid coupling of the shafts is quick and easy but only feasible in perfectly aligned situations. This is extremely difficult to achieve in practice without a great deal of time and machining costs. Any misalignment of the shafts can cause uneven loads, inaccurate motion, vibrations and eventually causes premature failure of shafts, motors and gearboxes. The answer is a precision flexible coupling.
A precision flexible coupling combines torsional rigidity with angular, axial or radial flexibility. These qualities maintain rotational accuracy and linear precision while accepting minor misalignment of the shafts. There are a range of types available using either a plastic spider or one-piece metal beam construction.
